Slashing is a mechanism built into Proof-of-Stake blockchain protocols to discourage validator misbehavior. Slashing events are downtime and double-sign. Double-sign refers to double-spend or chain forks. Depending on the incident and the level of severity, both validator and delegators will lose different amounts of bonded tokens. When double-sign occurs, the validator is not able to re-enter the active validator set that participates in the consensus. The team updates the reward mechanism to ensure that all stakers will receive rewards regardless of validator downtime.
